Lead Up When a Dependency Slips

Escalate a dependency risk with ownership, options, and a proposed recommitment.

Do not escalate to transfer ownership; escalate to preserve options. Name The Owned Outcome Start with the milestone you own. This prevents the update from sounding like a complaint about another person or vendor. Show Your Work List the actions already taken. Leaders need to know whether the problem needs attention, authority, or simply more time. Offer Options A strong escalation gives choices with tradeoffs. It lets the accountable decision-maker accept risk, change scope, add authority, or renegotiate the commitment.
