Pause Before the Next Question
Use a three-second pause to make room for fuller disclosure before asking another question.
A pause can be an intervention. Why silence helps The first answer is often a headline. A small silence lets the speaker choose whether there is a second layer. What to do during the pause Stay present. Do not stare dramatically, multitask, or prepare a rebuttal. If the silence needs a bridge, say, Take your time, or Say a little more. When not to pause If there is an urgent operational hazard, clarify quickly. Silence is for meaning-making, not for avoidable delay.
