Summarize the Contract
Close a conversation with a summary that checks meaning, owner, and next step.
The last minute is where misunderstanding becomes commitment. What a strong summary contains Say the decision or concern, the meaning or risk, and the owner plus next step. Keep it short enough that people can correct it. Why it works A summary externalizes the group's shared mental model. If the model is wrong, people can see it and repair it. The correction question Close with What did I miss? or What would you change in that summary? This keeps the summary from sounding like a verdict.
