Separate the Change from the Transition

Distinguish an external change from the internal transition people must complete to adapt.

A change can be installed; a transition has to be led. Bridges Transition Model is useful because it explains why smart people can agree with a change and still behave as if they do not. The external facts may be settled, but the internal map is still updating. In the ending phase, people are not simply negative; they are releasing status, habits, competence, relationships, or a sense of control.
