Build a Lapse Response Plan Before It Is Needed

Create a lapse response plan that reduces all-or-nothing relapse risk.

The client believes one drink means total failure and is afraid to tell anyone if it happens. Relapse prevention: anticipate high-risk situations, interrupt all-or-nothing thinking, and return to support quickly. The common trap is waiting until after a lapse to invent the plan, when shame and craving are already high. Define lapse language Write: A lapse is a warning event, not proof that recovery is over. The sentence is not denial. It prevents the client from converting one event into an identity.
