Measure the RAG Triad Before You Tune Anything
Use RAGAS-style evaluation dimensions to separate retrieval failure from generation failure.
The diagnostic move: do not tune until you know which part failed. RAG quality has at least three separable questions. Did retrieval bring back context that could answer the question? Did the answer stay faithful to that context? Did the answer actually respond to the user intent? RAGAS formalizes this kind of split so teams can evaluate without needing a hand-written reference answer for every case.
