CIP: Build Reasonable Belief
Describe the purpose of CIP verification and the minimum identity elements to obtain.
The reframe: A document is input. Reasonable belief is the output. Obtain the anchors CIP starts with the identifying elements that make a person or entity testable. If an element is missing or inconsistent, the issue should not be hidden inside the workflow. It should become a resolution step. Verify with fit-for-risk methods A low-risk in-person customer with a familiar government ID may need a different verification mix than a remote entity, a thin-file applicant, or a foreign business without a familiar registration number.
