Use OpenAPI as an executable contract across docs, tests, SDKs, and review.
OpenAPI works because it turns an API surface into a machine-readable contract. Paths, methods, parameters, request bodies, responses, schemas, security schemes, and examples become reviewable before code ships. The biggest value is not pretty documentation; it is preventing drift. If the spec drives mock servers, contract tests, SDK generation, and docs, inconsistencies surface early.
