Authority Before Advice

Use authority cues ethically before giving advice or asking for a decision.

Authority works best when it is inspectable. Bad authority Bad authority asks people to trust status: title, confidence, seniority, or proximity to power. Good authority Good authority shows the basis for the recommendation: method, evidence, direct observation, or a credible introducer. Best sequence Signal authority first, give the logic second, then frame the ask around the audience's responsibility.
