Balance Ethos, Pathos, Logos Under Pressure
Use ethos, pathos, and logos to diagnose the missing persuasive appeal in a workplace message.
When persuasion stalls, diagnose the missing appeal before adding more words. Ethos: can they trust it? Authority is not bragging. It is showing why the audience can rely on your evidence, your process, or the person vouching for the recommendation. Pathos: does it matter now? Pathos connects the ask to stakes the audience already recognizes: customer pain, team risk, fairness, ambition, or avoided regret. Logos: does the reasoning hold? Logos is the chain from evidence to recommendation. It should make the next step feel warranted, not merely preferred.
