Let SLOs Set The Capacity Target
Use service level objectives to choose capacity targets and avoid both overbuilding and underprotecting a service.
The SLO is the line that tells capacity planning what enough means. Why SLOs belong in capacity work A capacity target is not simply maximum throughput. It is throughput while meeting the service behavior users care about. SLOs define that behavior with a measurable indicator, a threshold, and a window. If the service needs p95 latency under a threshold at expected peak, the team can load test, forecast, and alert against that condition.
