CATEGORY-MANAGEMENT5 MIN READ

Build a Category Scorecard That Steers

Design a balanced category scorecard with a review loop.

The reframe: category value needs a cockpit, not a trophy case. Financial value Track negotiated savings, realized savings, cost avoidance, working-capital impact, or total-cost movement. Tie the measure to the baseline and owner. Stakeholder outcome Include the business result the category exists to support: uptime, launch speed, employee experience, service quality, compliance, or customer impact. Supplier and process performance Measure whether the operating model works after award: adoption, cycle time, SLA, defect rate, catalog use, or invoice accuracy. Risk and improvement Track resilience, concentration, regulatory exposure, corrective-action closure, and the PDCA review decisions that keep the strategy alive.
