Check the Analogy for Structural Fit
Evaluate whether an analogy maps the key relationship of a complex idea.
Catchy is not the same as structurally true. What to Map Before choosing an analogy, name the relationship the listener must understand. For microservices, the relationship is not smallness. It is independent deployment with explicit contracts and shared operational dependencies. What to Test Ask what the analogy would make a reasonable listener predict. If they predict something false, either adjust the analogy or state a boundary immediately. What to Say Use the format: It is like X because relationship Y maps. But unlike X, boundary Z matters. This lets the analogy teach without quietly creating a misconception.
