Think in State Changes
Model a workplace process as inputs, states, transitions, and exit conditions.
If a status does not imply a next action, it is not a useful state. Activities blur; states clarify Activity labels describe what someone might be doing. State labels describe what is true about the work. That distinction matters because a workflow can only be improved when the team can see what condition the work is in. In progress is usually a hiding place for several states that require different actions. A state model does four jobs.
