Use ETags and preconditions to prevent concurrent REST updates from overwriting each other.
A PATCH /vendor-profiles/42 endpoint lets procurement users edit risk notes. Multiple users often edit during renewal week. Use representation validators: server emits ETag, client sends If-Match, server returns 412 on stale writes. Last-write-wins is simple until it turns invisible disagreement into permanent data loss. Before GET profile, edit for five minutes, PATCH notes. Any later PATCH overwrites earlier changes. After GET returns ETag: "profile-42-v9". PATCH requires If-Match: "profile-42-v9".
