Plain Language Is a Conversion Tool
Edit a sentence so the reader can understand and act on it faster.
The reader should spend effort on the decision, not on decoding the sentence. Teach the model Plain language starts with audience, purpose, and action. Ask what the reader already knows, what they need to know now, and what they should do after reading. Then remove wording that does not help that movement. Three edits carry most of the benefit. Replace abstract nouns with concrete actors and actions. Break overloaded sentences into one idea at a time. Put conditions before consequences only when the condition changes the action.
