Worked Example: SCAMPER a Checkout Drop-Off

Apply selected SCAMPER lenses to create testable alternatives for a customer-experience problem.

Customers abandon checkout when shipping cost appears late in the flow; the team needs alternatives to another discount. SCAMPER after definition: transform the checkout moment, then converge on the cheapest assumption test. The usual shortcut is to add a shipping discount because it is easy to understand and easy to sell internally. That shortcut may buy short-term conversion while hiding the real assumption: customers may be reacting to surprise timing and unclear delivery value, not only to the amount charged.
