CRISIS-LEADERSHIP5 MIN READ

Separate Incident Roles From Job Titles

Assign incident roles that match the crisis work rather than the org chart.

Crisis roles are temporary tools, not status markers. Activate only what the incident needs A small incident may need one commander and two owners. A larger incident may need operations, planning, logistics, and communications. Make authority explicit People can accept temporary authority when it is named clearly. State who leads, what they can decide, and when the role will be reviewed. Transfer command deliberately If a better-positioned leader arrives, transfer command with a brief: current facts, objectives, actions, risks, and next update time.
