Read a workplace chart by checking frame, encoding, scale, denominator, pattern, and claim.
The chart is a visual argument, not the verdict. Scan the frame Name the business question, the population included, and the time window. Many chart mistakes begin before the first axis because the audience silently assumes a broader frame than the data supports. Decode the encoding Ask what visual feature carries the number. Position on a common scale is usually easier to compare than area, angle, or color intensity, so a chart can feel precise while making the hard comparison visually difficult.
