Write Data SLOs Before Thresholds

Define a data SLI and SLO from the consumer decision instead of from whatever metric is easiest to measure.

The move: translate trust into a measurable promise. Start with the decision The consumer's decision defines the service level. Finance may need revenue by 9:00 a.m. with exact reconciliation. Product may need hourly signup direction with tolerable minor lag. Machine-learning features may need schema stability more than human-friendly documentation. Different consumers deserve different indicators. Choose a small set of SLIs Common data SLIs include freshness, completeness, validity, uniqueness, referential integrity, schema compatibility, and reconciliation variance.
