Frame the Question Before the Query
Convert a vague stakeholder ask into a measurable data science question with decision, unit, population, metric, and action.
Do not start with the table. Start with the decision. Decision Name the choice the analysis will support. If no one will act differently, the request is curiosity, not yet an analysis. Unit Pick the row grain before you pull. Account-level answers, user-level answers, and session-level answers can point to different truths. Population Write the inclusion and exclusion rules. Most analysis fights are really population fights discovered too late. Metric and action threshold Define the numerator, denominator, time window, and size of change that would matter. This prevents a precise answer to the wrong question.
