Distinguish interruption signals from actual urgency before switching tasks.
The Eisenhower Matrix works because it separates two signals that digital tools collapse: urgency and importance. Urgency is time pressure. Importance is contribution to meaningful outcomes. Notifications are excellent at manufacturing urgency and poor at judging importance. When you pause to classify the interruption, you protect executive attention. Important and urgent gets immediate action. Important but not urgent gets scheduled focus. Urgent but less important gets delegated, batched, or answered inside a response window.
