Investigate Before You Label
Distinguish an investigation from a disciplinary decision.
Investigation mode asks what is knowable before asking what is punishable. Gather from all sides Look for records, direct witnesses, policy language, context, and the employee's account. Avoid relying only on the loudest complaint. Decide if there is a case to answer The output of an investigation is not automatically discipline. It may be no case, informal handling, a formal hearing, or a system repair. Protect neutrality in the record Use factual verbs: entered, approved, missed, changed, sent. Labels like dishonest, lazy, or hostile belong only if evidence supports them.
