Effort Predicts Defection
Recognize high customer effort as a leading churn indicator and convert it into friction removal.
Effort signals hide inside healthy service metrics. Look for repeat contacts, long customer-side waiting, re-explaining context, switching channels, manual exports, unclear owners, and “just checking in” emails from the customer. Each one adds work. A churn-prevention plan should name the friction, assign the team that can remove it, and measure whether the next customer with the same issue has fewer steps.
