Use empathy to understand a disagreement without surrendering judgment or decision quality.
A common workplace mistake is treating empathy like a concession. If I show I understand your concern, then I must be moving toward your answer. That is not empathy. Empathy is accurate perspective-taking. It says, I can see the pressure you are under, the tradeoff you are prioritizing, or the risk you are trying to avoid.
