Escalate the Decision Rights, Not the Data War
Use DACI to resolve a data dispute by clarifying who recommends, contributes, and decides.
Some “data debates” are actually decision-rights debates. DACI clarifies Driver, Approver, Contributors, and Informed parties. The mechanism is role clarity. The Driver owns the recommendation and evidence package. Contributors provide expertise and constraints. The Approver makes the call. Informed parties receive the decision and rationale. Without this separation, every stakeholder behaves like a veto holder, and the team keeps asking for more analysis to avoid the authority question. Data-driven decision-making improves when the evidence has an owner and the call has an owner. That does not reduce rigor; it prevents rigor from being used as a delay tactic.
