Executive Writing: Write a Status Update, Not a Status Dump
Turn a long activity report into a decision-ready status update.
A status update should answer "Do I need to act?" fast. If the reader has to infer status from activity, the update is doing too little work. Use a top-line readout before the detail. Status, risk, decision, and next milestone form a simple pyramid. Each section can be short, but each must carry a different job. Status Green, yellow, or red is useful only when paired with a sentence explaining why. Risk Name the thing that could change the plan. Avoid vague warnings like "some concerns."
