Upward Feedback: Signal or Surprise?

Frame upward feedback as a work impact and a request, not a personal critique.

Your manager often changes priorities in side threads after planning. The team misses some changes and loses time. DIRECT REPORT What do you say in the 1:1? "Can I share one pattern that may be costing us time? When priority changes happen outside the planning channel, people miss them. Could we post changes with owner and date?" Strong. It asks permission, names observable context, explains impact, and makes a specific process request. "You keep moving the goalposts and it is frustrating everyone."
