Separate Heat From Harm

Distinguish a threat response from the behavior you still need to address.

A hot reaction is information, not permission. The first job is to reduce physiological threat enough for the person to regain access to reasoning; the second job is to hold the boundary on behavior. Name the mechanism When people perceive threat, attention narrows, voice volume rises, and certainty hardens. Treat that as a temporary state, not as their full character.
