When You Cannot Answer Yet
Respond transparently when a hard question cannot yet be answered.
A transparent non-answer still gives the listener something useful. The boundary has to earn trust People can tolerate uncertainty better than vagueness. If you cannot answer, say why the answer is not ready, what part you can answer, and when the next update will arrive. Use four parts Known: the facts you can say now. Unknown: the detail not yet settled. Process: how the answer will be made. Next update: the date, channel, or owner for follow-up.
