PPE Doffing: Contain the Dirty Side
Apply a safe PPE doffing sequence using dirty-side and clean-side reasoning.
A worker has completed care wearing gloves, gown, face shield, and mask. The goal is to remove PPE without moving contamination to skin, clothing, or mucous membranes. Doff by contamination map: remove contaminated hand and body barriers safely, handle face protection from the back, remove mask or respirator by straps, and clean hands immediately. Pulling the mask or face shield from the front feels natural because that is what the worker can see, but those fronts are treated as contaminated and sit closest to eyes, nose, and mouth.
