Choose the Right Change Path
Classify an IT change as standard, normal, or emergency using practical risk criteria.
Classify by the shape of the work. A useful change classification answers three questions. First: has this exact pattern been approved and performed safely before? Second: can it wait for normal assessment without increasing harm? Third: is the remaining uncertainty small enough for automation or peer review? Standard Use standard when the change is routine, low-risk, documented, and already approved as a class of work. The control is in the runbook, monitoring, and periodic review.
