Use Kahn's Three Conditions
Distinguish whether disengagement is caused by low meaning, low safety, or low availability.
Disengagement is often a protection strategy, not an attitude problem. Kahn's model helps leaders stop guessing at motivation. A person can care about the company and still withhold effort if the conditions for engagement are not present. That is why the same visible behavior, silence in a meeting, can have different causes.
