Lead With the Ask, Not the Archaeology
Open workplace messages with the ask or recommendation before the backstory.
Readers cannot evaluate background until they know the point. The first sentence should answer the reader's implied question, not reenact the writer's path to the answer. The most common failure mode in professional writing is chronological sprawl. Writers start where they started thinking, not where the reader starts deciding. BLUF reverses that order. The inverted pyramid reinforces it: answer first, then reasons, then supporting detail. That shape respects how people scan under pressure.
