A narrow rip cut goes from improvised to controlled. What changed? Before: open blade and hands inside the danger zone. After: guard plus distance aid control the cut. The blade guard is back over the point of operation. It reduces direct contact with the cutting edge during normal feeding. The push stick keeps hands outside the blade path for narrow stock.
