Make the First Screen Declare Priority
Use visual hierarchy and dashboard layout patterns to make the most important read happen first.
The first screen should answer, not merely display. Position In left-to-right interfaces, top and left positions often receive early attention. Reserve that area for the primary status or question, not a convenient chart. Contrast Color, size, and isolation create priority. Use them for exceptions, targets, and the main comparison. If everything is loud, nothing is urgent. Grouping Related metrics should sit together and share labels, scales, or annotations.
