Reappraisal is disciplined meaning-making. It is not saying the problem is fine. It is testing whether your first meaning is the only meaning. A hijack makes the first story feel complete: they disrespect me, this is a setup, I have no control. STOP slows that certainty. Gross's model points to the appraisal stage as a leverage point because changing meaning changes the response options that feel available. Use the fact-story-need split. Fact is observable. Story is interpretation. Need is the work requirement. Reappraise the story without deleting the fact.
