Start With the Decision, Not the Report

Frame a finance request around the decision it should improve.

Finance earns influence when the report is designed around the decision. A management accounting request often arrives as a report request: revenue by channel, cost by team, margin by product, forecast by month. The trap is to treat the artifact as the job.
