Name the Need Under the Irritation
Identify the autonomy, competence, or relatedness need beneath a workplace reaction.
Behind many sharp reactions is a need asking to be handled cleanly. Notice the cue Self-Determination Theory says high-quality motivation depends on autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Mindfulness helps because it makes the state of those needs visible before you react. A tense meeting may look like anger, but underneath it may be thwarted autonomy; a defensive review comment may hide competence threat; a clipped reply may be relatedness risk.
