A useful IT scorecard shows the tradeoff, not just the win. Balanced Scorecard thinking helps governance teams avoid vanity metrics. A vanity metric makes the function look active or efficient while hiding whether the enterprise objective improved. Technology teams are especially vulnerable because many IT measures are easy to count and hard to interpret. Value Show whether technology is helping the organization achieve a strategic result: revenue protected, cycle time reduced, risk reduced, cost-to-serve improved, or regulatory commitment met.
