Low motivation is often a missing condition, not a missing trait. Autonomy Autonomy is the feeling that I have a meaningful hand in how this work happens. It does not mean unlimited choice; it means choice inside boundaries that are honest. Competence Competence is the belief that effort can become progress. People need clear expectations, useful feedback, and visible wins. Relatedness Relatedness is the sense that my work connects to people, purpose, or a manager who notices me. Without it, effort starts to feel anonymous.
