Name the Purpose Before the DESC
Add a mutual-purpose sentence before a DESC script so assertiveness does not sound like attack.
The principle A DESC script has four jobs: describe, express, specify, and clarify consequence. It does not automatically answer why the conversation is worth having together. That is the job of mutual purpose. Use one sentence before DESC to name the shared outcome: protect the customer, reduce rework, make handoffs predictable, improve team trust, or keep a promise to stakeholders. Then deliver the concrete script. This keeps the assertive structure from sounding like a charge sheet. Do not bury the ask in purpose language. The purpose opens the door; DESC walks through it.
