Give the Buddy a Job
Define a buddy role that supports belonging and information seeking without replacing the manager.
A buddy without a brief becomes either invisible or overused. Translate norms The buddy helps the hire understand informal patterns: how meetings work, where decisions live, which channels matter, and how to ask for help. Protect manager ownership The buddy should not set priorities, judge performance, or rewrite the ramp plan. Those are manager responsibilities. Plan the fade By day 30, the buddy should be connecting the hire to the broader network, not serving as the only safe person to ask.
