Balance the P&L with leading indicators

Connect financial outcomes to customer, process, and capability indicators.

Financials tell you what happened; the other perspectives tell you why it may happen again. A P&L leader needs both. Financial perspective Revenue, margin, operating profit, cash conversion, and forecast accuracy show the outcome. Customer perspective Retention, complaints, win rate, price realization, and expansion quality show whether demand is healthy. Internal process perspective Cycle time, rework, utilization, defect rate, and service cost show whether the operating system is producing margin reliably. Capacity perspective Manager load, training, tool adoption, hiring readiness, and knowledge depth show whether performance is sustainable.
