Hours Worked Beats Hours Scheduled

Distinguish scheduled hours from compensable hours worked for payroll review.

Scheduled time is not the same as worked time. A payroll review should compare schedule, punches, edits, and work signals. The control question is: did the employee perform or was the employee required or permitted to perform work? If yes, payroll needs a record and sometimes escalation. Signals to inspect Early system access, post-shift messages, automatic meal deductions, training time, travel notes, and manager edits near overtime thresholds. Control response Do not erase ambiguity. Preserve the record, ask for facts, and route legal classification questions to HR or counsel.
