Overtime Status Is Not a Job Title

Choose the right escalation when a salaried employee may not meet exemption tests.

FLSA exemption analysis is not title-based. The DOL white-collar framework generally requires salary basis, salary level, and duties tests. Payroll administrators usually do not own legal classification, but they are close enough to see contradictions: salaried nonexempt missing overtime, exempt employees with manual time records that show production work, or job titles that do not match duties. The mechanism is issue spotting. Payroll should not silently pay or deny overtime based only on salary.
