What does a SMART goal add to performance management? It turns an expectation into a specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound standard. Use it when the behavior or result is clear enough to review. Compare an Objective with a Key Result. The Objective names the meaningful destination; the Key Result names measurable proof that the destination is being reached. If it describes work to do, it is probably an initiative, not a Key Result. What is a continuous performance check-in for?
