Apply cutoff thinking to decide whether an AP item should be accrued, held, or booked next period.
AP cutoff protects the period, not the inbox. The Teach A late invoice can still belong to the current period. An early invoice can still belong to the next period. The date AP sees first is rarely the only date that matters. Cutoff discipline asks which period received the goods, services, or economic benefit. The Mechanism Reliable reporting depends on evidence: receiving records, service dates, contract milestones, acceptance emails, and unbilled goods received.
