Let spacing create useful effort

Use spacing to plan recall attempts at moments when memory is effortful but still recoverable.

The move: schedule the next retrieval, not the next reread. What spacing changes Immediate recall can prove you were paying attention. Delayed recall proves whether the knowledge is becoming usable. A gap lets some forgetting happen, which makes the next successful retrieval more informative and more strengthening.
