Fix bar hazards above the towel level
Choose stronger controls for recurring bar hazards instead of relying only on reminders and cleanup.
The move: stop treating reminders as your first safety control. The hierarchy of controls asks you to solve hazards in this order: eliminate the hazard, substitute a safer option, add an engineering control, add an administrative control, then use PPE. In a bar, elimination might mean removing a broken glass rack from service. Substitution might mean using a safer chemical or a squeeze bottle that does not leak. Engineering might mean a drip tray, guard, stable shelf, or mat change. Administrative controls include checklists, signs, and cleaning schedules. PPE includes gloves and cut-resistant gear.
